From the breeder

The tri-color hognose snake ( Xenodon pulcher ) is a small, rear-fanged venomous colubrid native to South America (including Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Bolivia). Physical Characteristics Size: Females grow to about 24 inches (61 cm), while males stay smaller at 18 to 20 inches (46–51 cm). Appearance: They feature a stocky body with smooth scales and a signature upturned rostral (nose) scale used for burrowing. Coloration: They display vibrant bands of red, black, and white or cream, acting as Batesian mimicry of venomous coral snakes. Behavior & Temperament Defense: When threatened, they flatten their necks, hiss, and make bluff strikes, though unlike North American hognose snakes, they do not play dead . Venom: They are rear-fanged venomous, meaning they need to chew to inject venom. The venom is medically insignificant to humans, typically causing mild local soreness or swelling unless an allergic reaction occurs. Handling: They are generally squirmy, active, and prefer not to be handled heavily compared to other species. Ownership & Care Lifespan: They live for about 7 to 8 years in captivity.
